You go to the nearest Greyhound Station or Greyhound.com and buy a ticket.
What kind of "help" will you need along the way? Just follow instructions and sit calmly in your seat until you arrive in NY. If you want someone to help you, I suggest you pay for a friend to come with you.

Grehound.com lists three possible routes - two with a single transfer at St Louis, one with 3 transfers.
If you transfer at St Louis, the trip is around 34-35 hours.
