You poor thing, sorry to hear about your recent losses. Any unexplained pain that doesn't go away after a couple of days should be checked out - and just because you're a smoker doesn't mean that every single ailment is attributable to it! Go and see your doctor, you won't be wasting his time. After what you've been through it's understandable that you're scared, but it's better to get this checked out if it hasn't gone away in a couple of days - if there is anything wrong the earlier it's diagnosed the earlier the right treatment can be started if necessary.

There is no need for you to worry too much. After loosing family I suppose it is normal to get a little paranoid. Don't panic about it but see a doctor as soon as possible just so you can calm down. However, if you need advice on giving up smoking.... I smoked for nearly 8 years and found it difficult to quit smoking (only lasted 3 weeks the most). I know this this sounds crazy but I read Allen Carr's EASYWAY to stop smoking and I have been a non smoker since. I dont know how it worked but it did and guess what?! The dark cloud hanging over you as a smoker disappears and you stop worrying about getting cancer or one of those terrible illnesses linked to smoking. So, all in all: Read the book - YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT and see a doctor to calm you down. You'll be ok, good luck and all the best!

You may have just strained a rib head. Stress and even bereavement can cause a tightening in the chest - think how your shoulders come forward when you're not feeling so confident - and it may be that a simple lifting or twisting action may have strained the joints in the thoracic spine and/or a rib head.
It's a common problem that can mimic something more sinister. I treat about one a month. For peace of mind, consult your doctor first but an osteopath should be able to help.
Good luck.
