Why do people gleefully disrespect each other these days? It suddenly seems like mutual respect and manners are archaic concepts and being rude or disrespectful is something bold one should be proud of.

The world has become more obssessed with self.

The problem is a lot of the people who continually show disrespect to others do so because they haven't been taught proper behavior or are the project of pathetic parenting.

Spoil a child and they'll fall into the pit of entitlement. It may sound "quaint" but there's a great deal to be said about going to church as a family. The most polite and respectful teens i come across are mostly active church members.

The whole "It's my way or no way." mentality never gets you very far and those who often show disrespect never will gain any...respect is like money you have to give some to get some.

I think it's because people believe they get more respect when they sound dominating. I actually will be driving next to a car and I will get their attention and start waving and smiling. I do this because it's unexpected and it makes SOME people laugh. They probably think I'm a weirdo but it puts them in a better mood. Everyone should smile at one person a day and that will cause a chain reaction and put everyone in a little bit of a better mood.

I agree mostly with cassiepiehoneybunch.

Plus, many times you will catch people out of their element and they will be rude as a self-defense mechanism. Not right, but it is what it is.

I work in downtown Chicago and see rude people all day long. I'm sure they are much nicer near their environments....at least I hope so.

Now, for "them kids now-a-days!!". Yeah, I guess when you grow up on MTV and its a "me, me me" culture and you see celebrities on TV being rude, you just want to emulate them. Not to mention the popularity of the Jackass moies.

Yeah that's so true. I've been wondering that for a while, but after a while I gave up and just chalked it up to their insecuritites. Alot of people I know act like real jerks because they aren't content with themselves, so they have to tear down all those around them. It makes them feel better in comparison to the loser on the right. You know their hurt cause they have a teenie pp or baby boobies.

I agree with the answerer who said it has to do with insecurity, but also the fact that our society thrives on conflict. Everything is based on it and because of this people not only feel the need to belittle degrade and disparage it is all many have ever known. The cause for this is among many things television, war, upbringing and environment.

I don't actually think that anyone thinks it's "cool" per se. I just think that because we live in a society where instant gratification is the norm, people have become so self-centered that they feel that they are ENTITLED to tell off anyone who doesn't give them exactly what they want, exactly how they want it exactly WHEN they want it.

It's the parents fault for not properly raising their children these days. Most kids are spoiled bastards who deserve a swift kick in the @ss!!!

I hate to say this and I'm not even old, but 'Kids nowadays!!!!' This kid just bumped into this old lady today, now if it were me I would say 'Oh my God, I'm so, so, sorry' and would feel terrible, but this teenage girl, just gave the old lady a dirty look and walked off! What is coming to the world?

Because people don't raise their voice against it like they once did. Furthermore, some people actually applaude others for acting out.
