I am pre-disposed to a myriad of lung/respiratory problems including respiratory infection, pnemonia and I also had a collapsed lung at age 19. I am 24 years old, slightly overweight and have tried to get on a good workout plan, but my lungs can't handle it. I get winded far too quickly to contiue with a jog/exercise regiment for it to have any affect. Any advice on how to gain stronger healthier lungs?

Hi there!

I am assuming you want to work out more to lose weight; however, you feel like you are being limited on your weight loss by your lung issue. Therefore, I would recommend you go after weight loss from a different direction.

Work out what you can, and keep your calories to 1500 per day spread out over the day. If you adhere to this, body fat reduction is the natural result.

I believe this answers your question, but if not, you may email me.

Good luck on your diet and fitness goals!

First of all, I would have a word with your doc to check that your workout isn't goign to harm you. After that it's just a case of practice. The more cardio you perform, the more lung capacity you will have and the better your peak flow will become.

Oh, and I trust you don't smoke....
