B, defrinately. Just provide an ashtray outside, and if they are respectful, they shouldn't mind at all.

PS- I am sure that the smokers will appreciate a place to sit also.

B. Prohibit smoking in the house but allow it outside, I recently stop smoking so that meant no more smoking in my house, my freinds and family that smoke dont seem to have a problem smoking outside

B. Prohibit smoking in the house but allow it outside

That would show that you are at least trying to be considerate, just make sure you put an ash tray out there otherwise you'll get butts all over the place.

B. We smoke, but out on our deck we have a small old flower pot for butts. And all our friends and family who do smoke do it outside too.

If someone has to ask for an ashtray, just politely say "Oh, there's one out on the deck, we don't smoke inside."

I am one of these people who this actually applies to. I am a very clean person who likes my home to smell like candles and not stinky cigarettes. I do not allow smoking in our home or on our deck. There is a small spot in our back yard where smokers can do their thing far away from my home and away from my windows. I would choose A.

B-allow it outside at least. I am a smoker and I understand people dont want it in thier house. Most people should understand that as well. I don't see the problem in letting them go outside to do it. But, it's your house and you make the rules!

Tell them that you have a non-smoking home and that you would appreciate it if they took their butts outside.
To avoid them tossing their butts into the yard or where ever, buy a cheap ashtray at the dollar store, or use an empty coffee can.

Any friends of mine wouldn't even ask me what the "rules" are. They know. Because of my house/porch and my sensitivity to smoke, so A is my rule. Most friends are fine with holding off for 2-3 hours if they need to.

When I smoked, I NEVER smoked indoors but would step outside and have my cigarette (even if they insisted I smoke indoors, I refused to do so because their curtains would reek of cigarettes and their furniture... and I chose not to smoke in front of minors or elderly people). I would suggest that you tell them to please smoke outside and provide them with a tin or an ash tray to deposit the cigarette butts; the fact that you do not smoke or want it indoors is acceptable but what is not acceptable is what can be construed as making people stop smoking altogether; that alienates people and is, in truth, disrespectful, even if they ARE in your home (that's why they are requested to take it outside).

B. and let it be known as the designated smoking area for those who might ignore it. Smokers, these days, are use to such restrictions. You can place ashtrays outside, but resign yourself to picking up butts in the morning.
