Yeah, that's a tough one. Everything in the world isn't funny!

It's just a really annoying habit, a tic, I guess you could call it. It's not all that common (and I am really grateful, since it's so annoying) but it happens often enough that I've run across it. I went to see The Good Girl in a theatre and this one guy laughed every minute or so, pretty much whenever somebody spoke a sentence. Sure, a few things were funny in the movie, but not *everything*--come on! I wanted to pour popcorn down his shirt or smack him in the back of the head with my gigantor soda cup. Rrrghghghh!

I guess if you were really ballsy, you could call her on it...and it might not do any good. She might just get mad at you for bringing it up but then not change her behavior. She might not be ABLE to change it, and then you'd be stuck as "the one who complained about the boss's problem" but nothing would be different other than that. I wish I knew how to fix the problem, really, I do. I'd use it on a person I know who laughs inappropriately. I'm sorry you have to deal with it on a regular basis at work, but I don't know how to fix it. Too bad, huh?

I bet if I knew what to do, a lot of people would be thanking me now. Sorry I don't. But I feel for you--that counts for something, right?

Could be she is nervous and insecure. And she probably doesn't even realize what she is doing annoys you. I am sure that it annoys other people too. I don't know if she is laughing at you or just does it because it is something that she does. I never cared much for women bosses, and when I was working, I was fortunate enough to have a male boss. I think sometimes women that are the boss at work tend to be overbearing, often insecure, and perhaps think they are above their employees. I don't know this woman, but I agree that this constant laughing would get on my last nerve. You are right - everything can't be that funny. Maybe you should tell her that it annoys you. If other people are bothered by this too, you should all approach her about it. After all, she can't fire the whole darn office at the same time. Good luck.

Laughing After Every Sentence

2017-01-15 05:06:52 · answer #4 · answered by baransky 4 · 0 0

Your Boss eh? No dont call her on it, they do it because they hate themselves. Its like those people who dont like uncomfortable silence, and just talk when there is nothing to say. What you can do is wait till she laughs after a completely non funny comment and ask her why she laughed, whats so funny? Problem being they are very nervous, anxious, and dont like to be confronted. You probably avoid talking to her as much as possible, and you dont sound like the shrinky friend that will set her straight. Its just so easy to hate people like that and pick on them, because its obvious they have self esteem issues. Try talking to her about death, or really dark morbid stuff, she probably will start avoiding you and that will help fix your problem.

You're in California and you have to ask? The only thing worse - Florida. I knew a guy like that once. He didn't use a period at the end of a sentence but an affected, cockamamie, humorless laugh. Wow. Hope he's still fishing for bait!

I think it's a sign of mental instability. The people that I've met that do this are retarded annoying. And the nervous theory isn't the answer in their cases. I have no proof, but I believe it to be true.

From a psychologist: “A constant nervous giggle, what is called a self-deprecating laugh, is a nervous tic. The giggler probably isn t very aware of how much he or she does it. It indicates insecurity and a poor self-image. It can often come out of a childhood in which the child is fearful of harsh criticism or punishment, and tries to indicate submissiveness to avert punishment.”

well. some of the other answers were good. the person I have in mind seems to want a reaction (positive) from me. I have taken to avoiding eye contact with her when she does it. I noticed she looks at me & I feel like she expects me to laugh at what she just said.

Sounds like someone with a sense of humor and a positive mental attitude. Just roll with it, better than working for a bitter, pissed off hater.
