First, you need to find out the state regs for running a daycare in your home. A google search should turn that information up. Many states require home day cares to be liscensed, with regular inspections of the grounds. If that is the case in AZ, the state will also tell you what type of insurance and the amounts you must carry to protect yourself, If your state does not regulate home daycares, I would suggest talking to your whomever you have your homeowners or renters insurance with. If you don't have any insurance, you need to look into getting some immediately. This is the only way you can protect yourself. There is no way, even if a parent signs a waiver, to legally absolve yourself from any and all responsibility if a child is injured, taken or lost while in your care.

I live in Ga and you must be licensed at 6 children. However, most people aren't that I know. Make sure your homeowners knows that you are running a home-childcare business or else they could not cover an accident. I worked in a childcare facility for a combined total of 13 yrs and have a unlicensed babysitting service now. If you get licensed you will have to have a certain amount of DHR hours and training. Be sure regardless of if you are licensed or not that you know CPR and first aid. YOU WILL NEED IT SOONER OR LATER!!! Also take some Early Education Classes from your local community college. You can obtain an associates degree and these credits can be counted as DHR hours.
