The Peace Corps is a volunteer organization that helps people develop life skills in other countries and can be very rewarding but difficult to get into. You first need a college degree and you must fill out a lengthy application including a number of references. The whole process can take 18-24 months and still you may not be accepted. If you are accepted it will a very rewarding 2 years of your life.

Yes, it is worth it. Absolutely. Start with the web sites, and then try to meet other people who have volunteered. With a little searching, you should be able to trun up quite a few volunteers in your area. Ask your teachers if they know any. Find others you can write to. Everyone has a story to tell as unique as they are. It is correct that good intentions are not enough... but they are a good start. Almost all of us are more willing to share our experiences.

It is worth it, IMHO.
It is a program run by the US Government.
You have to have a skill that a foreign country wants. Most of the people who post Q's in YA think good intentions are enough. They are not.
Most volunteers have college degrees. The ones that don't have degrees have a lot of experience in what they do.
