Great fight! For the fan! Gavilan, the great Cuban, never ceased throwing punches. And he had amazing hand speed. His famed "bolo" punch was more for show, I suspect. But a shot to the solar plexus, or chin, could end a fight. Otherwise, he wasn't much on power. Benitez was as quick as they come on his feet, had good hands, and was a great defensive tactician. Impossible, in his prime, to really hit. He made Sugar Ray Leonard miss badly and even look clumsy when they fought. He was such a natural, he trained on the salsa dance floors of NYC, chasing girls and partying all night. But the Kid had fought the REAL Sugar Ray. And had more of a crowd, and judge, pleasing style. It may have been highly disputed by those in the know, but Gavilan's flash would get the nod over Benitez's skills.

Man oh man, What a fight that would have been! Great match my friend. Once again I'm irritated that I didn't think of that one! A tough fight to call. Two great counterpunchers. I would think that Gavilan would be the more aggressive of the two. Gavilan would win a controversial split decision because he would take the fight to Benitez.
