A friend of mine did this at home with no pharmaceutical support, and her biggest issue was that she didn't know when the physical and mental misery would end and she would feel like herself again...So just to let you know, she found out it takes about 4-6 weeks to totally stop feeling tired, depressed, nauseous, and just blah. The most severe physical symptoms will only last about 3 days, but will be prolonged if you have been taking methadone, because of the long half-life of methadone. If you haven't taken any methadone, don't start now because it will make your withdrawl longer and harder. You can take over the counter meds, such as kaopectate and pepto bismol, for gastrointestinal upset and over the counter pain meds for headaches and muscle aches. 1st couple of days you will feel like you are going to die, but the only real physical risks you face are from elevated blood pressure and dehydration. Buy a digital blood pressure cuff and take your blood pressure regularly, and make a schedule for taking liquids so that you will not forget to drink. If your blood pressure goes over 160/95 or you cannot keep down enough fluids, you will need to seek medical attention for prescription stregnth pharmacological support (blood pressure meds and meds to prevent vomitting). You should also seek medical attention if you are having severe tremors as they might lead to seizures. It is important to realize from the outset that you will not avoid feeling sick and miserable. If you are not prepared to feel awful, you will wind up using your discomfort as an excuse to quit withdrawing and start to use again. No matter how ill you feel, you will be safe as long as you seek medical attention in any of the above listed situations, or before you start if you have a pre-existing medical condition.
P.S., I know you didn't ask, but if you are a drug addict and anticipate you will have trouble staying clean, skip NA and check out www.rational.org

WATER! ,for depressoin i suggest changing your diet, drink a lot of clean bottled water (my guess is that you drink cofee and soda all day, you want to take these things out of your diet for sure and smoking) include MINERALS (the sports one is flavored or else i think that there are others that are flavored) AND EFA dietary supplements from a company called American Longevity, phone#1-800-982-3189 2400 Boswell Road, chula vista, California 91914 also you should be careful about the amount of the mineral supplements do not exceed more then one tablespoon a day, also don't forget about vitamins, the vitamin product that i use is called E 7 (essential seven) the telephone number is 1(888) 737-7307 i would take only one half of one scoop a day . if you do some study about what exactly it is that all of these different vitamins and minerals PURPOSE INSIDE OR BODY'S is you will probably figure out that they can help to elevate ALMOST all symptoms of ill health, there is a audio tape about minerals called "dead doctors don't lie" call 1800-982-3189 to order.

You really would be more comfortable if you talked to your doctor about it first. They can prescribe medications that will help with your withdrawal. And I don't mean just another narcotic. I mean non-narcotics.
If not, you may be in for a few really bad days. Vomiting, diarrhea, severe aches and pains, insomnia, the inability to sit or lie still. The worst should be over in 3 days. But it will take several weeks for you to feel a lot better.
