Mumps is mainly a disease that affects one to five year olds. Sometimes adults are affected but this is unusual. If you definitely had mumps infection as a child you are likely to be immune to the disease, and it would be very unusual for you to develop symptoms as a result of contact with the mumps virus. If you have concerns about your immunity to mumps, or feel that you might be at risk for any reason it would be a good idea to see your GP to discuss this.

actually you may not have mumps but you may be experiencing recurring parotitis media. It is not mumps although it does affect the same area of the body. Parotitis media is another term for mumps but there is a similar pattern for this which happens many times during life.

I was diagnosed by our regional medical director 6 times as having mumps---went home and recovered. FINALLY she realized she had diagnosed mumps earlier. So much for taking time to get over MUMPS! ;-)

I hope your condition is merely the mimic of mumps. Mumps is really painful.

An adult can get the mumps if they have been exposed. You need to contact your doctor for a diagnosis.

Yes you can and by the sound of it you might have it. Get medical help immediately, I don't want to alarm you but mumps is more toxic in adults than in children and it is contagious. See your doctor and don't ask us.

Yes it is possible, and it can be very serious for adults, especially for males. I would definitely want to get checked by a doctor.

If you haven't had it before, you can get it. And for a man, especially, it can be very dangerous. It can leave you sterile. Run, don't walk, to a doctor for tests to be sure.
