It depends on what type of wedding reception you want to have.

The wedding ceremony is usually pretty standard, the church or chapel will run you about $1000 to $2000 depending on date, time, and demand of the location. For instance, if you are planning a Vegas wedding the chapels in the hotels all run you about that amount and usually include some pictures (excludes the Bellagio and the Wynn).

The real money gets spent on the reception. Most places charge per person and does not include alcoholic beverages or soda. Most so-so places charge about $50 pp. High end places charge about $100 to $150 pp (with a minimum head count). It can get pretty pricey but you don't have to worry about food service or clean up.

If you have a large house you can have the reception catered in and buy the alcohol and soda yourself --you'll save a bundle. Draw back is that you have to hire the people yourself and appoint someone to be in charge of supervising the people you've hired. You also have to hire a cleaning crew (trust me). Also, depending on where you live (check with your city hall), you may have to get permits for parking and having music after a certain hour.

If you can't afford a hall or have a small home, then I recommend that you have a small afternoon reception where you only serve ourderves/finger foods and a few drinks. If you are in the Los Angeles area the Omni hotel in downtown has a beautiful Japanese garden on the roof top where you can have a lovely cocktail reception.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - The average amount spent on weddings has increased to $27,852, up nearly 100 percent since 1990, and the number of weddings per year has increased by 200,000 during that time, according to a new study.

Since 2002 nearly every wedding expense has increased by over 20 percent. This includes the bride's and groom's attire (up 30 percent), engagement rings (up 25 percent) and a 60 percent increase in the cost of the wedding band, according to the Condé Nast Bridal Group.

Up to 36 percent of couples end up spending more than they had planned on their big day.

The average altar-bound woman is now 27 years old, her fiancé is 29, they have an estimated household income of $74,000, will be engaged for a period of 14 months, and their wedding will have 165 guests, the study said.

Alot of people want a big expensive wedding nothing wrong with that at all. But when my husband and I got married we payed less than $1000.00. We had a nice church wedding I had the dress and all I wanted it to be a fast but nice ceremony it lasted one hour. We had a nice reception at a club w/ a dj cake ,and a nice meal. The money we had gotten from he dollar dance we paid of our wedding rings. Its really up to the bride and groom on what they want.

In the NY area, people easily spend 60,000 for a wedding. I don't think six hours of a part is worth that!!!!!!!!!!!
