Those people who threaten people with hell, insult others, or promote intolerance in the name of religion, can they truely be followers of a religion based in love, acceptance, and compassion?

Common Cents: When I hear Christians saying that they hate homosexuals, muslims, pagans, ect. then it becomes pretty obvious that some people seem to think that they do fit, and no amount of circular logic is going to convince me otherwise...

They just follow what people SAY, rather than reading the Bible itself and understanding what the Bible says, and understanding the instructions within the Bible for what to follow and what to ignore.
Since people love to hate to make up for their own insecurities and shortcomings, they hinge upon all the things that man wrote into the Bible, and ignore everything that is supposed to come from Jesus, God and the Angles.
So, they persecute Gays, corrupt the law of love, interfere with marriages, prevent sexual intercourse, violently force their opinions on others and worship a man holding an inverted cross as the head of the church, carry crosses and prayer beads, believe in images of Jesus and God, among many other things.
Of course, all of these things are what they are NOT supposed to be doing...

Some people will undoubtedly answer "yes." These people don't have a true understanding of Christianity.
Christianity teaches that LOVE is great. Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. A person who truly understands Christianity understands this. Christians are told to LOVE their enemies, and pray for those who treat them badly and hurt them. This is a far cry from condemning people to hell.
True Christianity is not boastful or proud, and so you rarely see these people in the spotlight-- they don't draw attention to themselves. They don't become televangelists. They're not loud.
You can't judge an entire religion based upon the actions/words of the few who make themselves heard noisily and obnoxiously. That seems obvious.

i personally think that people like that are just wannabe christians
they are religious but they dont let God rule in there lives
hell is a real place and if you havent accepted Gods free gift of salvation then you are going there
thats not a threat it is a fact
i dont like people who wave that over other peoples heads with an attitude that iam better than you
bcuz they arent
we are all sinners
im not perfect i have done wrong things before as have the rest of us
there are absolutes laid out in the Bible and when we dont follw them we sin
that is not intolerant it is just truth
the people who see it as intolerant are trying to change the absolute truths to fit what they believe
i respect what you believe though i may not think it is right
i will pray for you and iam sorry that you have seen people that are bad witnesses for christ
there are really good christians out there
who really love God
you probably know some and they are praying for you like i will be

You already know something as dark as hatred and Christianity doesn't fit in principle, thus your concept of Christianity involves hate in it already. Otherwise.... you wouldn't have asked if those two unlikely concepts even remotely "fit".
When you're ready to learn about the bible and what it teaches, rather than stay blindly with a concept of Christianity that you've invented based on the media, experience, society or whatever... you let me know. The truth will absolutely blow your mind.

Hey. You gotta be within earshot for that. What're you doing there? It didn't come out of the walls. As an afterthought, who said those people are Christians? You? Oh, to ' confuse ' you further. God hates. There are things in this world well worthy of hatred and destruction and death. Learn to use one of these: http://www.eliyah.com/lexicon.html
It's called a concordance. It's only limit, is your own head.

Apparently, not. I mean, I've just been reported for saying I hate Christianity. There seems to be no common space for hatred and Christianity.

No. Hatred and Christianity should not go hand and hand. But we are all sinners and fall short at times. That is the greatest thing about Christianity...we can ask for forgiveness. God's grace is never ending.

There should not be any hatred in the Christian heart. It does not fit with Christs teaching but much like oil and water they can mix although they shouldn't.
We are all human and we will all have times that we are not in accord with the spirit of our faith. So yes. unfortunately although it should not be so.

I don't see how. I mean, I think it is legitimate to hate evil in some abstract sense, but labeling a large group of people evil just because they don't go to your church is definitely NOT the way Jesus intended people to act.
