Community outreach ideas w/ children?

I am a stay at home mom with a seven month old. I have so much time on my hands that I want to make good use of it and better the world! I need some suggestions for volounteering where I can bring my infant. I'd like to be able to do something that involves getting out of the house. HELP!!

In the United States today 1 in 166 children born has some form of Autism. Please consider doing something to help autistic children, to help the parents of autistic children, or to raise money for research.

What skills do you have? Can you sew? Cook? Are you trained in business? Do you have any medical training? Can you groom pets? Can you help people study for SAT's? Can you teach STD awareness to teenage girls? Are you a good story-teller, or reader?

There are always programs to help low-income moms find work that will sustain their families. There are a lot of outreach programs to help kids. 4-H is nice, because it is a program where kids learn skills by doing, and then teach what they know. Anyone offering leadership knowledge is a godsend.
I woudl suggest you start by inventorying what you are interested in, and then find someone doing work that "fits", or that can fit you into it. E-mail me if you want to talk offline.

Perhaps you could volunteer at a daycare center for children from low-income families? Your baby would be around other kids that way, and you could be using your parenting skills. The elementary school I used to teach music at hosted something like this every day and always needed volunteers.

You could always have a mothers group, where other mothers of small children come together and discuss there questions and concerns, or go around and give advice, help to young teenagers who are pregant on how to care for a baby.

Your church should have activties so you can volunteer.
