The USDA recently released a new guide to assist consumers in achieving healthy lifestyles. The new pyramid lays emphasis to the point that Americans of all ages can benefit by including two to three servings of fish or seafood per week. Phillips Foods, Inc. provides consumers with an innovative shellfish option to help them meet the new dietary pyramid: crab meat.

Crab meat is virtually 100 percent fat-free, rich in protein and offers no carbohydrates. According to dietician Alexa Bosshardt, MPSRD, LD/N, Phillips` blue swimming crab meat fits in perfectly with the new dietary guidelines, which suggest high-protein foods that are lean and either low-fat or fat free.

"Crab meat is the perfect complement to any healthy lifestyle because of its great nutritional profile and overall health benefits," says Bosshardt. "Integrating blue swimming crab meat into any meal is a great way to ensure that anyone - from the gym enthusiast to the on-the-go mom preparing meals for her family - is meeting today`s dietary guidelines."

Straight from the refrigerator to the table, blue swimming crab meat can be part of a healthy diet in many ways. Because of its mildly sweet, delicate flavor and smooth texture, crab meat is a creative "topping" for proteins such as steak, chicken breast or fish, or it can be served as a center-of-the-plate item. It is also terrific in crab meat salads, crab cakes, or creamy crab dips.

In addition to its versatility, Phillips` blue swimming crab meat is produced at the height of freshness and has a shelf life of one year. Other proteins, such as beef or chicken must be used within days or frozen and thawed, often degrading flavor. Incorporating crab meat into your diet is an innovative way to consume lean protein without sacrificing flavor. And, because of its mild taste, crab meat is a great shellfish for people just beginning to experiment with seafood.

With a full portfolio of crab meat products available at more than 12,000 retailer locations across the country, Phillips crab meat is readily available to help consumers jump start their seafood intake to meet the 2005 Food Pyramid requirements.

Phillips Foods, Inc. is leading the seafood industry with the highest quality and most delicious seafood products on the market today. Owning and operating crab plants and seafood restaurants for over 45 years has placed Phillips in a unique niche in the food and restaurant world. Phillips, Making Seafood a Bigger Part of Life. Is Crab Good For You

Crab legs are very low in fat, lower in fat than a skinless chicken breast. It's the butter that you put on them that is bad for you. So, eat up just skip the butter.

Yes. They run about 80-90 calories averaged. But it depends on how much you eat of them. I like to eat crab legs && my doctor says it's not fattening.

Your weight is a balancing act, but the equation is simple: If you eat more calories than you burn, you gain weight. And if you eat fewer calories than you burn, you lose weight. Since 3,500 calories equals about one pound of fat, if you cut 500 calories from your typical diet each day, you'll lose approximately one pound a week (500 calories x 7 days = 3,500 calories). Simple, right? Then why is weight loss so hard?

All too often, we make weight loss much more difficult than it needs to be with extreme diets that leave us cranky and starving, unhealthy lifestyle choices that undermine our dieting efforts, and emotional eating habits that stop us before we get started. But there’s a better way! You can lose weight without feeling miserable. By making smart choices every day, you can develop new eating habits and preferences that will leave you feeling satisfied and winning the battle of the bulge.

Do your food shopping with a list and a time limit; that way, you're more unlikely that to stray into the processed foods section.
