Older age group looking for an old school club in D.C. to go to, preferably on a Saturday. Don't want to deal with little girls wearing next to nothing grinding on little boys with their pants halfway down. Looking for something more sophisticated than that, basically good people trying to have a good time.
Can anyone help me out?

By "old school", I mean 80's and 90's R&B, go-go, and hip-hop.

the Black Cat is great. check out the website blackcatdc.com
they have many different dance nights and DJs. i especially like Mousetrap, which they usually do once a month. it's an 80s and 90s Britpop dance night. it's not all british though. they play bands like the Cure for instance and the Clash. they also have hip hop dance nights etc. the 930 club, which was recommended to you above is mostly for concerts. they play many good shows there. i know what you mean about a lot of clubs, though. there are a lot of great bars in DC too. me and my friends when we have money like to go to Georgetown. i haven't really been to many clubs lately, but i hope this helped. definitely check out blackcatdc.com have fun!!

"Old School" can mean a lot of things! What kind of music do you want to hear? Do you want dancing or just socializing?

If you want a more upscale scene with live jazz and dancing, try the Bohemian Caverns on 11th and U NW.

For rock and roll, try the 9:30 Club on 8th and V NW but what the crowd is like will definitely depend on what band is playing. I've seen all sorts of crowds there.

There's tons more but it helps to know what "old school" means to you!

Update... check out Cada Vez on 15th and U NW; MCXXIII on Connecticut Ave NW; Ultrabar on 9th and F NW (their crowd sometimes gets a little young and goofy but it's fine most of the time); avoid Platinum and Fur and anything in Adams Morgan!
