Well, there are mixed opinions on this. With akitas, and before you ask yes I own one, be prepared for things to not change later. That means, if you currently sleep alone, they may be very slow to allow someone else to sleep in your bed with you. It will not be unusual to find them in bed waiting for you when you go to bed. As with most dogs, they will make several circles before they lay down and get comfy; you MAY get stepped on.
If none of this is a problem for you, and you do not have or develop an allergy to the dog, go for it. They are very snuggly critters :o)

YES! I am a huge fan of having your pets in the bed. My dog has slept with me under the covers for the last 6 years. Generally amy cat will join us. On cold nights my lab cuddles in with us too. As long as you are careful not to a)kick the puppy off or b) roll over and smother him, then I believe it can be a great bonding opportunity! Make sure your Akita knows that it is YOUR bed and they are getting the treat of sleeping in it. Sometimes my dog forgets and I have to scoot him over to make room for me!
BUT- there is info out there that suggests otherwise. I suppose you have to decide what is best for you and your Akita.

As long as you have a big bed and don't mind a 80 lb Akita sleeping in your bed in about 8 months.
I admit I let my cute little tiny adorable choco lab puppy sleep in my bed, now the 80 lb heifer steals the covers.

Ah, the joys of loving ones pet! I had an Akita/husky. She was the sweetest anyone could ever hope to have. Never a bad temper or aggressive. BUT and this is the big one: She grew up to be HUGE!
She took up the WHOLE bed space when she stretched out and this is something she did often.
It's a bit disconcerting to be abruptly awakened to find oneself cold and all balled up on the floor while the dog enjoys the warmth of the bed. Be sure your darling knows whose bed it is before you spend too much time together in it. -:)

I plan on letting my dogs sleep with me when I get them. If he starts to get possessive of the bed though, boot him off so he doesn't start to think of it as his place. I'm going to have Labradors so I doubt I'll have as many problems as you can with an Akita. Just pay attention and if he starts getting bossy, bed privileges should be the first to go, then couch, etc. Always make sure to make him work for his food (make him sit or lie down before feeding) and keep obedience training him.

Yes. I have a dachshund that will sleep at my feet, but i have a beagle that will sleep on my chest, so as long as your Akita puppy doesn't start the habit of sleeping on your chest that will be fine.

My dog, 2 cats, hubby & I all sleep great in our bed. Just remember, your puppy will be a big dog in a few months, and if you start him as a puppy in your bed, the habit will be very hard to break once he is an adult! believe me, my Cocker is 7 years old, and trying to get her out from under the covers is almost impossible ! LOL

Well, not all people agree with this, but our pups sleep in our bed. The reason for it being an issue is because it can cause confusion as to who is the alpha, but with proper training, you can teach your dog that it is still you and they can still share your bed.
It is very important that you, as the owner, have the dominance established and not your dog. If it becomes an issue, I suggest doing crate training at nite time for a while to make sure your dog understands you "allow" him to sleep there and not that it's his bed first.

I think so, but my puppy has been sleeping with me since he was little. Now he's 2, and he takes up most of the bed!

As long as you have plenty of room in your bed I dont see any problem. I sometimes have up to 4 rat terriers in bed with us and we sleep great.
