Salt water gernerators account for about 40% of sanitizing systems being installed by builders for about the last 3 years. They have gotta be about the best thing that's happened in the industry in the last 15 years or so. They aren't exactly new technology. They've been around for years.
What I like about them is the lower chemical and operating costs. I reckon my customers are saving about 35% per year on their total pool operation costs. On average, you can recoup the initial cost of the generator within 4 years or so.
You won't be floating any differently, the salinity is only 2500-3500 ppm, less than 1 /300th that of a human tear.
These generators also have less effect on other aspects of your water chemistry and don't tend to muck around with your TA or Ph, meaning you save more money on keeping the water balanced
I have to disagree with the previous poster, however. They ARE a chlorine system. They just go about sanitizing a little differently. Salt is turned into chlorine, does it's oxidation and reverts back to salt to later be converted back to chlorine later.
