As your wife does not have a visa I would check with a lawyer first before I went any place for the fear they would send her back and make her apply for a visa or green card. I don't think you will have any problem with your son. but go for advice if your income is low check with legal aid in you area.

I'm assuming that you're still in Mexico.

What you need to do is go to the nearest US Consulate or the Embassy in Mexico City if that's closer to where you are. You must request for a "Consular Report of a Birth Abroad of the US Citizen". You must provide the following:

(1) an official record of the child’s foreign birth;
(2) evidence of the parent(s)’ U.S. citizenship (e.g., a certified birth certificate, current U.S.
passport, or Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship);
(3) evidence of the parents’ marriage, if applicable; and
(4) affidavits of parent(s)’ residence and physical presence in the United States.

Basically what it is, is proof given by the US Govt that your son is a US Citizen by derivation because you are a US Citizen.

There's more in depth info at the US State Dept Website:

Contact the consulate and get him an "American Born Abroad" certificate which will act as his American birth certificate. With this he can get his social security card.

go to your closest US embassy/consulate and apply for his American citizenship, he will be granted, you just need to fill out some paperwork. They will be able to show you which ones.
