1-u have to make sure u spare a credit card or cash somewhere else.
2-get your embassy number BEFORE you goto that county and call them to verify the number.
3-remember western union will ask for your id.so make sure u have it too.

I'd freak out and then call my dad to send some money so I can make my way to the US consulate and get my passport...

i would be completely distressed but you just have to put it down to experience and keep going. best advise is to always keep some of your money somewhere else on your body so you dont end up completely penniless.
