The gift from groom to bride and vise versa was dated to when the parents paid for the wedding and the groom wasnt allowed to see the bride for the entire day of the wedding (until she walked down the aisle to him) as a rememberance token more than anything.

In this day and age with more couples paying for the wedding themselves that tradition is slowly dying out. You should discuss it with your groom.... if he thinks you both can forgo it, do so and spend the money on your wedding, honeymoon, or getting back on your feet after the wedding.

If you both decide you DO want to get each other gifts then get him something he will both USE and ENJOY. Something to offset some of his wedding costs would be a bonus...

So for example... will he use cufflinks other than at the wedding? If so get him cufflinks with your wedding date engraved in them or your monogram. This will be something he would use, like (because of the sentiment) and be able to use to offset wedding costs. There are many options, just follow your own instincts... we cant give you a good answer here because we dont know your groom.

Congrats and Good Luck

You and your fiance should discuss if you will exchange gifts. It's become a bit of a tradition for the couple to exchange presents before the wedding...normally the wedding party or parents will deliver the presents.

Presents can be something nice (like cuff links or a watch, etc.) to something funny (one of my brides got her fiance a rhinestone covered "PIMP" cup like the rapper's carry around), or something that is a private joke between you two (I got my husband a pair of black socks because the last wedding he was in, he forgot, and wore white socks with a black tux).

Just make it something that he will appreciate, and at the least, include a sweet card or note for him.

Traditionally your gifts to each other are your wedding rings, however I have bought my husband to be (we are getting married in December) a pair of cufflinks for the day, one says 'Very' and the other says 'Sexy' in diamantes, and I have also made him a card just to tell him that I love him and I can't wait to be his wife! I'm going to give them to his best woman to give to him on the morning of the wedding.

Usually you are supposed to give him some kind of gift. I'm giving mine a very nice watch and I am putting together a scrapbook that starts at when we got engaged and it counts down to our wedding. Each page is something special we have done in a countdown format. (Example Christmas = 145 days to go)!!

I thought the gift was the honeymoon night, lol!
I didn't know you were supposed to and im sure my husband didn't either. We don't worry about "gifts", we were in love and just cared about being together for the rest of our lives.

a couple of weeks befor the wedding he got a parking ticket outside our own house he was well miffed and then he got another 1 a week later so i went to the joke shop and got a fake one and a thank-you card, i put £20inside the card and wrote that im glad he put up with me blah blah blah and then for his best men i wrote the first drinks are on me as i know he will be shitting him self by now to calm his nervs and so on, and i put it in side the parking ticket i got his bestman to stick it on the car window first thing and he fell for it, *he was not amused) but forgave me after and loved the idea!

yes you do get him a gift. Try to make it something that will last and therefore it can be reflected on in years to come. A special book of love poems if that is his thing for example. A watch that is engraved with the date and initials. Not something like a camera that would age and date and he will probably upgrade himself in a couple of years. Give it a lot of thought and you will come up with the right thing.

Go shopping with him and notice where he chooses to "look" and if he does not mention any likes or dislikes, give him a gift certificate to a store that has abundant variety of things that most men like? Is he a clothes horse? Is he one who likes to fish?, Golf, TV or what? And just think about a store that would supply something he REALLY LIKES...? If he has a sibling who knows him well, or parent who will reveal information to you about his likes, that is a big help...
