Keep your nails cut short for a while. Push down on your cuticles with the opposite side of a nail file this will encourage growth. You need to train your nail to grow back normal again. Try to keep your nails short till you no longer notice the split. This will make your nails stronger as well. Also you should keep all your nails the same length. Massage cream on your nails to make them less dry so the split will not return. It will take a daily effort of clipping, filing, cuticles and cream to heal your nail.

Depends on how the nail is split. If I think I am imaginig this correct, your nail has a spilt down the middle of it. I would therefore advise that you go to a doctor and ask if the nail(s) be removed, and bandaged. This will allow for your nail bed (its below the skin, almost by the bone of your fingertip) to start a new nail. Now, it will be painful when it is removed. Do what your doctor says, and you will eventually have a brand new nail!

Get a nail repair kit, readily available in chemists, supermarkets etc. Contains fibreglass strip, nail glue, file, buffer and of course full instructions. Dead easy to do and takes about 5mins tops.

a friend of mine used to put nail polish over the split and then put a bandaid on it. not sure if it worked. but that story sounds painful. good luck with it.
