MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxy-n-methylamphetamine), most commonly known by the street names ecstasy or XTC (for more names see the full list), is a semisynthetic entactogen of the phenethylamine family, whose primary effect is believed to be the stimulation of secretion as well as inhibition of re-uptake of large amounts of serotonin as well as dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain, inducing a general sense of openness, empathy, energy, euphoria, and well-being. Tactile sensations are enhanced for some users, making general physical contact with others more pleasurable; but, contrary to popular mythology it generally does not have aphrodisiac effects. Its reported ability to facilitate self-examination with reduced fear may prove useful in some therapeutic settings, leading in 2001 to permission from the United States FDA for testing in patients with post-traumatic stress disorder in conjunction with psychotherapy.

Acute dehydration is a risk among users who are highly physically active and forget to drink water, as the drug may mask one's normal sense of exhaustion and thirst. Also the opposite, "water intoxication," resulting in acute hyponatremia, has been reported as a consequence of use. Sometimes more dangerous chemicals such as PMA or methamphetamine alone or in combination with MDMA are added to ecstasy tablets. Long-term effects in humans are largely unknown and the subject of much controversy - particularly with regard to the risks of severe long-term depression as a result of a reduction in the natural production of serotonin.

kill you

Well, depending on where it came from it can have all sorts of different ingredients in it...and most likely it was made in a dirty hovel where sterile instrument is not even a recognized word.
X can cause death, seizures and brain damage. The user can become dehydrated and lose control over their ability to reason. You could end up doing things that are inappropriate or even dangerous, including sex with multiple partners or with someone who has a disease. When on Ecstasy you don't think about these things and you don't think about condoms either, because you LOVE the other person so much you can't imagine that they would lie to you or that they could ever hurt you.
It's illegal and you could end up in jail

There are a lot of things that are bad about Ecstasy...it is not a good drug even people who are healthy before taking x can die.

I was addicted to drugs for 4 years and did my fair share of X, and trust me it is not worth it...I know people who have died, it is not a selective drug!

Yes ecstasy is a drug therefore it is bad right? Most people have expressed that this drug is bad and its negative effects and although I'm not going to argue with them, it can have very pleasurable effects as well. Its like any drug, when taken it will potentially have good and/or bad effects. With any kind of drug it should never be abused or taken with alcohol. Yes it can make you do crazy things or get you into situations were you typically would not if you were sober but being drunk has the same effect so whats the difference between ecstasy and beer? Personally speaking it allows me to be more myself and relax more in social surroundings. I am more comfortable so that I can engage in conversations with people I typically would be too scared or nervous to talk to. I think having good self control allows the user to have a more pleasurable experience then a crazy night where you may have unpredictable outcomes. Very important rule though, Dont abuse it.

There's a couple ways that it can kill you. Like someone else said it can just make your heart stop. It can also raise your body temerature so high that you basically cook to death.
As far as just damaging yourself....well your brain looks like it got eaten up by moths. My best friend did that to himself. It's taken years for him to be back to his normal self. He was horribly depressed for a long time b/c he used up so much seratonin. It isn't necessarily true that you have to be on anti depressants your whole life b/c of that though. He was a few months but improved enough to get past that. BUT he still sometimes totally forgets what he's doing and will sometimes slur his speech for no reason. He's had more scans done and his brain is looking better but he still has holes. It's not worth the damage it does.

The worst thing about XTC is that you don't really know what you are taking. You might be taking speed, thinking it's XTC. That makes for very unpredictable trips. Another thing is that since you don't know what exactly is in it, you don't know either what effect it will have when you combine it with alcohol or other drugs. Permanent brain damage can be the result. If you live in Europe, then of course you should know that you can get the pills you buy checked. That way you'll know if it's really XTC.

But... do me a favor, will you. Don't do XTC, it's not worth it.

Gee, where to begin. It's been proven to desensitize users to true (non-drug) ecstasy by weakening seratonin-sensitive neurons. Former users have reported feeling unexpectedly apathetic during events which would normally give great joy, such as getting married, having a child, etc. It also causes hypertension and occasionally Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder, which is incurable.

I heard, a few years back, that there was this college kid who took ecstasy, which enabled him to drink MASSIVE amounts of alcohol without eating. He eventually passed out. As he slept, his body was trying to repair itself, get rid of the drugs and booze, and recupe.... He began to vomit in his sleep, which would have been fine. But, he inhaled some of the vomit. And when he did, he aspirated it into his lungs, and it was so acidy, from no food and all alcohol, that it ate through his lung tissue and he died.
My biology proffessor was also an ER nurse, and she had many-a story about people who overdid it with ecstasy and other drugs. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!! I like to party. And I will not elaborate on that, except to say- You will never see or hear of me doing Ecstasy. Because I never will.

Ok, that's a good question. I had a friend who used exctasy alot. Her wound had dropped being she could no longer have children. That drug is one of the most powerful drugs sold to poeple who feel that it would erase all the issues that they have in life. I myself never tried it and will not ever do such drugs so I can not reaaly tell you much about it only enough information to tell you that it is very dangerous and it will affect your body all kind s of ways. Try prayer and believe in God if your life gets to that limit.

ok, i must admit... i have never tried eckiies, but...... both of my brothers have tried it and they have both said this about it "it feels like you want to have sex with everyone you see and then.... you wake up!!!!....
...."the hangover/detox you have is like having drunk 3 casks of red wine.... pretty bad!!!!"
one of my brothers is a famous d.j, here in australia (and i dont think the effect would b any different, anywhere else!!!)
for "house/underground" parties, the other is a security guard!!!
i dont care where u were brought up, i dont care how you were brought up, or how young and "immortal" you think u are, ecstacy is bad news!
it basically (in laymans terms) causes your body to think it is extremely de-hydrated and poisoned and therefore, causes your body to go into "survival" mode (the same effect as a poisonous snake bite e.t.c. would naturally cause) and shut-down!!!!!
your endorphins (natural, chemical painkillers) react by assuming your body is in distress and shut down your vital organs....
(heart, brain, liver, kidneys e.t.c.) therefore, causing the same effect that DEATH would cause!!!!
and did you know, you feel so thirsty that you can O.D on water????
you drink too much and your kidneys shut down...as if you were an alcoholic!!!!
how sad!
please, stay away from this s*#t!!!!!
its all bad news!
if ppl say they have done it and survived/felt great e.t.c......
i have known personally at least 3 ppl that have died from it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the rest r only living on borrowed time!!!!!!!
kindest regards, jas!!!

You're kidding, right?

Brain imaging research in humans indicates that Ecstasy causes injury to the brain, affecting neurons that use the chemical serotonin to communicate with other neurons. The serotonin system plays a direct role in regulating mood, aggression, sexual activity, sleep, and sensitivity to pain. Many of the risks users face with Ecstasy use are similar to those found with the use of cocaine and amphetamines:

Psychological difficulties, including confusion, depression, sleep problems, drug craving, severe anxiety, and paranoia - during and sometimes weeks after taking Ecstasy.
Physical symptoms such as muscle tension, involuntary teeth clenching, nausea, blurred vision, rapid eye movement, faintness, and chills or sweating.
Increases in heart rate and blood pressure, a special risk for people with circulatory or heart disease.

Also, there is evidence that people who develop a rash that looks like acne after using Ecstasy may be risking severe side effects, including liver damage, if they continue to use the drug.
Research links Ecstasy use to long-term damage to those parts of the brain critical to thought and memory. One study, in primates, showed that exposure to MDMA for 4 days caused brain damage that was evident 6 to 7 years later.

MDA, the parent drug of MDMA, is an amphetamine-like drug that has also been abused and is similar in chemical structure to MDMA. Research shows that MDA also destroys serotonin-producing neurons in the brain.

MDMA also is related in its structure and effects to methamphetamine, which has been shown to cause degeneration of neurons containing the neurotransmitter dopamine. Damage to these neurons is the underlying cause of the motor disturbances seen in Parkinson's disease. Symptoms of this disease begin with lack of coordination and tremors and can eventually result in a form of paralysis.
