Hi,
I recently hurt my back and neck from lifting too often and too much weight. I seem to always over train my muscles, and it drives me nuts. I am thinking of going to a chiropractor to relieve some of this pain. Does this work? Also, how often do you go? What do you feel after you get the treatment done?

It may or may not help - depends on if it is just muscle strain or if there is actual damage. It probably won't hurt anything and, if you feel better afterwards, go for it. I would suggest using less weight and doing more repetitions - that will work just as well and help avoid the strain.

Traditional Chiropractors methods can lead to arthritis of the spine & disk problems from the popping & manipulations of the vertebrae.
Do yourself a favor BEFORE seeking help from a traditional chiropractor. First do your best to locate an UPPER CERVICAL CHIROPRACTIC Doctor in your area. Their goal is REALIGNMENT, NOT manipulation..

I'm sure there is a website for them, but I have never had to look for it because we have an Upper Cervical Chropractic Doctor in our area that we go to.
Look for..... NATIONAL UPPER CERVICAL CHIROPRACTIC RESEARCH ASSOCIATION, INC.
here is their mailing address, write them & request a list of practitioners in your area, a new patients guide & a patient question & answers guide.

I would say that reoccurring back probelms would benefit more from REALIGNMENT of the back than MANIPULATION of the spinal vertebre.
I use to get horrible migraine headaches & when I went to our UCCD & she took x-rays of my back, she asked if I had been in a car accident because my alignment was sooooo far out. I told her I had not been, but that I was getting these migraines & I had noticed that my left shoulder was way higher than the right & my right hip was way higher than the left. After my first adjustment I felt VERY relaxed. The adjustments DO NOT HURT ( even our boys go in for routine adjustments twice a year & they are 10, 8 & 5) I no longer get migraines & I walk & stand different because I now stand BALANCED with both sides of my body doing their own job, instead of one side overcompensating for the side that is unable to do it's job properly. When I first started going I had to go every month for a year because my back muscles on the left were not strong enough to hold me in alignment. But as the adjustments made the left side ABLE to do it's job properly, the muscles strengthened & I started having to go back less & less.
Now, I go in for routine maintenence twice a year unless I jar my neck or ??? I know that I make an appointment as soon as possible whenever I do something like you have done, lifting wrong or what ever. That way if I have thrown my back out of alignment I do NOT give it time to cause me problems. The quicker it is realigned, the quicker healing starts......
GOOD LUCK!!!

I know one guy who goes to our UCCD who suffers from sciatica. He has had to be carried into her office, but after an adjustment, he WALKS out on his own!!!!
