captmhunt. initially you answer was A), why the change of heart? I do like your answer better, now. I agree, respect should be shown, even if you disagree. It's ok to disagree with somebody. No need to defend the right to the death.

Carefully. Obviously it depends on the person and your relationship to them...
Generally: try to keep an open mind, listen to what they say, think about it and raise your counter arguments.
Sometimes, however if you're really at an impass, it's not really worthwhile to continue discussing the topic.

To me it depends on the question. If I know nothing about the subject, I do not answer. If it has to do with common sense, I will give my opinion or my wisdom due to my experience in life, (I am older than most on here). If it is something that someone is obviously trying to get a rise out of others, I simply do not answer.
If I honestly think I can help someone, I will answer to the best of my knowledge and wisdom.

I would answer with what I believe. I would say that while I'm slightly uninformed on the subject, based on current knowledge this is how I feel.
If they say they don't agree withyou then just say that's what makes this country great. We don't all have to agree. Isn't it interesting that you feel this way and I feel that way? Some of my best conversations have been on subjects that my friends and I disagree.

Well,D & F.I would suggest that you don't need to argue with that particular person who doesn't agree with the kind of life you're walking. You wont spend time discussing with him/her about it.It would only be in vain, provided he/she is open to a discussion but if he/she isn't, well,I would just change the topic. But I'll pray for that person, hoping that he/she would realize later that what i have is something to emulate with. That is if i feel that I'm on the right track.Anyway,as long as he/she is aware of it.That is already something I wont insist but i would suggest and explain my side if given the chance to do it.

That depends on the tone of the question.
Some categories here have some pretty heated debates and the questions asked can be rude and insulting. If that's the case, the asker deserves what he or she gets.
Otherwise, if the question is genuinely polite and innocent, then it deserves a polite and courteous answer.

It's a sad commentary on how Americans lack tolerance for views they don't agree with. Although I may not agree with someone or even hate their view point... I will defend to the death their right to have that view point... I just wish some of these people would give me the same respect.

it depends what the question is and if i know anything on the subject if i do i would let them know my opinion but not in a nasty way and if i don't know anything then i wont answer the question but usually if it is a person being rude or ignorant and posting racial comments i love to tell them how stupid they are.

A - anyone who would answer this way should be punched in the head. ha-ha
B - how arrogant is that?!
C - is the most likely answer cause people who don't know the facts always seem to want to talk about it the most (ha-ha)
D - I would likely do myself and I would just not comment and let it go. I know my beliefs and I don't need to defend them to anyone.
E - if someone responded to me by saying E, I'd think they were being rude and condescending. Just like "you are entitled to your opinion, but you are wrong"
F - unless the question asked was truly hurtful or offensive to you (or to those around you), you should tell them that.

Kindly, ask them "why do they want to know?" That puts it right back on them. If they say "Just because" or something like that, tell them that's not a good enough reason to reveal an answer.

E :)....and u can explain why u don't agree, as long as u take into account that Yes, this person thinks differently than you.
as long as u can understand that, put urself in their shoes, and try to explain ur answer putting them into ur shoes as best u can, then u are Respecting both others, as well as ur own views.
have a nice day :)
