I lived alone for 8 years before my son was born. I am fine with being alone, as long as my son is still alive. I can certainly understand the fear of a couple when one spouse dies. My father has done very well, he and my Mom were married 63 years. In fact, he still chases women, marriage never stopped him from doing that, though.

There is a time of adjustment and a grieving process to get through....friends help and so does attending church or support groups...and answering questions here helps also.
I am alone...a widow and my last son recently left home....I am lonely, no doubt about it...but I pray and ask God to help me and I depend on my friends more than I used to...hopefully without becoming a drag.
I try to get more involved in the community and get concerned with other people. I help out at the local food bank and I work care giving for an elderly woman...there are times of sadness and of not knowing exactly what to do to fill up my life....but I believe in time I will get guidance and direction and know more how to fill my life up and be content. I think that the key is to focus out of myself on what I can do to be of help to others and of some usefulness in this world.

I would miss my spouse a great deal, but I am a loner by nature, so the thought does not bother me too much.

I have to say I think women would cope better than men. Most of the single women I know cope well on their own, in fact some of them prefer it but the same can't be said for single men.

Co-dependency develops naturally over time. Why is my cat so different now that her sister died a couple months ago?
