do you think translation is a good major?

what do you think about the major of translation and interpreting and what do you think are the best languages to specialise in (at least 3 languages) supposing that you chose this major?

It isn't a bad major because people have to know the nuances of what a person is trying to convey, especially in writings.

I would say Spanish, Arabic and Mandarian Chinese.

I feel it is a good profession as the world market opens up more to free trade. I would look especially at China and India Languages not Sure of a third, maybe Malaysia. Most of these people also know English as a Second Language for Business. But, you show respect by knowing their language and in turn gain their respect. This is very important for Business Relations. Also, to me a part of learning a language also, will require learning a little of their culture, religion and morals.

It is an excellent major with good long term job prospects. Look to the future for languages to specialize in. I assume that English is your first language based on your proficiency.

Grab at least one western european language like French, which is good for diplomacy, or Spanish which is the other language of the Western Hemisphere.
You'd be crazy not to include Chinese, the next century will likely be theirs, but it is very difficult to learn well.
In terms of marketability, either Hindu after that if you want to travel, or other Western European languages. India will likely be another economic force in your lifetime.
