Patience, honey, patience. You can only give guidance and instruction and no heavy handedness. Give this child respect and honesty. Don't let your anger show - EVER. This will make them feel like they have control over you and your emotions. You want them to like you and love you and respect you, right? Then do the same with them first. Find an olive tree honey. One day at a time with consistency will be the only way to fix your problem. If you think they are spoiled and are saying it out loud where they hear you, maybe that is all they hear from you.

P.S. funny you should emphasize that she is a spoiled American, because all the young Asian children I have seen were SPOILED rotten and out of control.

a little mroe info would help. But for starters both parents need to present a united front. Depending upon the age of the child, asking them to accept a new parent isn't always easy.

You know what? I am so sick of always hearing how horrible Americans are. Americans can be so tolerant of other ppls cultures, beliefs, etc. But it seems like ours are always disregarded. Social construct of reality is what it's called. You might not like it, but it's our culture, so shut up.
