Start off with yummy steak dinner at fancy lavish restaurant, then take cab to the opera then possibly some drinks afterwards. What do you think? Any other suggestions?

Sounds really great, but also a little lavish for a first date. It's going to make it really difficult to "top" on a later date, and could add pressure since a lot money is obviously going to be spent. It also seems like there wouldn't be very many opportunities to get to know each other...aside from maybe the drinks afterward.

Are you serious about this person or just mildly interested? I'd tone it down a bit for a first date...maybe something a little less expensive and long winded. Something a little more laid back probably be best.

Most, but not all girls eat steak, find out first.

Don't spend to much on the first date, sometimes the vibe is not all that great. A lavish dinner date should be saved for when you are in love with that person.

Keep it simple and light, then it's not about how much you spent on her, it's more about how much good time you are having with her.
Make her feel as if she's the most important person, even if you are eating at TACO BELL.

Not for a first date — way too formal. Save that for after you've been dating for a while. Besides, maybe she doesn't like the opera. Or steak.

BLAH....if the girl likes that kind of thing!!! I think something casual and fun (not that the Opera isn't fun) My boyfriend and i played pool on our first date...or maybe find out the things she likes to do and play off of that...do something where you can have a coversation and get to know each other

Sounds great; make sure the place you choose for drinks is very small and intimate where you can actually hear each other speak. Don't overdo the drinking either. Enjoy.

No. It'll make you the "dinner guy". GO for something more casual. Bowling, Stake, dancing.
