First of all, it is a terrible injustice not only to history, but to the
true converts to Christianity to say that they were forced to convert (in every case). After the appearance of the Virgin Mary to Juan Diego (a native indian) on Dec. 9, 1531. 3,000 people a day for 8 years converted to Christianity, for a total of 9 million. It was the most monumental conversion in all of Christian History. Read the history that came before her appearance, the historical significance of her appearance, the differences it made in the culture, read about the symbolic nature of her image she left on Juan Diego's tilma that still exists today. Some of the information is listed on the website below. Before you leave the site make sure that you scroll down and take a look at the Scientific Data. Pretty wild stuff, they are still making discoveries even today as our technology improves.
She is known as Our Lady of Guadalupe. I dare you to open your
mind and do a little research! Find out for yourself. Don't let our culture convince you that your Creator has nothing to offer you!
You don't need someone else to tell you what to think! There are positives and negatives in everything. Do you think sacrificing men, women and children is a good thing? Over 20,000 a year were sacrificed in Mexico City prior to the arrival of Christianity.
Everyone needs to expand their brains a bit, and do some research themselves.

I don't understand why it is called the "new world", it was inhabited by humans before Europeans visited there. Sadly I don't think there were any positive impacts with the spread of christianity in the "new world". The Europeans forced their beliefs upon those who already has their own beliefs, what would happen if a group of Animists cam e from Africa and forced their religion upon Europe? The Europeans used religion as a way to plunder and exploit the "New World" peoples.

Here are a few:
The spread of the idea of human rights and human equality -- even for prisoners, slaves, women & children. True, it has be a long slow process, but go back to pagan Rome and research how far we have come. Also consider that the natives of central and south America, like the Aztecs & the Maya regularly practiced human sacrifice on conquered peoples until the Spanish stopped it.
The proliferation of hospitals, orphanages, and charities. I have noticed that not many liberals or non-religious people donate time or money to charities, in spite of their talk, and they constantly make fun of religious people for giving up ten percent of their income.
Ended slavery (most abolitionists were Christian). Many indian tribes held slave, as did the Europeans.
Civil rights movement started by the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the congregation of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
The creation of the University in the middle ages. The idea spread to the New World.
Economic development of the New World.
The idea of universal education.

Depends on your point of view. If you were a European, there were lots of positives: new places to send your criminals, new sources of money, new places to send your political malcontents, new converts (forcible) for the Church.
If you were an inhabitant of the New World, there were basically no positives, just lots of negatives: Destruction of your culture and civilization, death by torture and disease, robbing of temples and palaces, forced conversion to new religion....the list goes on and on, right up until present day.
I know all of this sounds political, but it ties together in a couple of ways. Much of the wealth taken from the New World went to the Church. Just about every exploratory voyage from Europe had priests with it to record events and treasure and forcibly convert the natives. In more modern times, every US president who lied to and betrayed the native peoples of this country was a Christian (every US president elected has claimed to be a Christian).

Positive aspects: The killing of coutless numbers of American Indians, and the collection of millions of acres of new, free land. This was a change of pace for Christianity, who up until that time had been killing Muslims, Pagans, and even their own Franciscans....
Negative aspects: Brought hundreds of thousands of Africans to this continent under the guise of God Sanctioned slavery, and spread the faith to more parts of the world that never asked for it. Layed to ruins the natural resources of this land.

For Europe, the aspects included increased access to resources, territorial gains, and wealth. For the Native Americans, the aspects included smallpox and the complete destruction of their societies and culture.
Those who say there are no negatives have never considered having their entire way of life and much of the population of their race destroyed...

Give people the Good News that if they repent of their sins and trust Jesus to save them on Judgment Day then they can spend eternity with God in Heaven.
The negative aspect is many people don't like being told that they are a sinner and need forgiveness. Many people want to live for themselves and don't want God telling them what they can and can't do, but still think they'll go to Heaven. Repentance and trust is what Christianity is all about. For straight is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to eternal life and few there be that find it. Jesus is the only way. But how many people are really looking? I shudder at the thought.

hmmm... The slaying of natives that were already here and living peacefully.... nope that isn't positive.
The spoiling of natural resources... nope that isn't positive either.
Preying upon their fellow man aka Salem Witch Hunts... nope, nothing positive with that.
WOW, this question is a lot harder than I thought. I will have to do some more looking around.
