I think we have all been thro this at one time or another..this may seem to simple but it does help a little..before you settle down write down all the things bothering you on a note pad...leave the pad next to the bed if you waken with something else bothering you follow the same procedure again...otherwise just the usual warm milk warm (not hot) bath ..use bedroom only to sleep no TV etc...

Hi, I too have been plagued by my thoughts before falling asleep for years. I don't know of any ways not to think about things because thats the only quiet time my head has. Even if I have a hard day and work out , and am really tired, my mind takes a long time to settle down.
I will be looking forward to others responses to your question.

Peter,
Hi, my name is Chelsea and I think i can help you with you're question. When i have a lot on my mind and i cant go to sleep i put everything out of my mind. I know its hard but is there anything you can do about whats going to happen tomorrow right now? No so if you dont get a good night sleep you cant approach the situation very well to try and deal wit hit tomorrow. So you have to create and "mantra". This is a phrase of a sentence that you say over and over again until you fall asleep. Mine is "Sleep is only a thought." or "i am very tired." when you say these things , they can be in your head or out loud but your brain registers the command and eventually you'll get to sleep!! Hope this helps a little!! Good luck!

There are many suggestions to tame this problem. L-Theanine is the product that has worked best for me. I got it at the health food store. L-Theanine reduces rumination. It affects levels of GABA. GABA is also available but I don't know if it crosses the blood-brain barrier. You may want to look into these two supplements.

I think some prescription and non-prescription sleep aids do induce sleep by causing sufficient drowsiness to override the problem-thinking, but it may be preferable to directly address the situation and use something that reduces this type of thinking.

Ultimately it is probably best in the long-run to simplify life so that our brains are not bombarded with more problems than they can handle.

confident, plenty! some days its greater advantageous than others, yet many of the time i'm mendacity unsleeping for a sturdy hour. It kinda annoys me 'reason I examine that the final person falls asleep in 7 minutes, and that i became like, properly, I take waayyy longer lol.

Thats a very common problem, I would suggest Tylenol PM, Nyquil Works too. If those don't work go to your doctor and ask for Ambian (for sleep) and if it's more of a stress issue ask for Xanax (the .25mg are the smallest ones and they will quiet your internal chatter and put you too sleep). I used too have that problem chronically, I took the Xanax route b/c Ambian leaves you really groggy in the morning, hope it works out for you and you are not alone.

I would like to suggest writing everything down on paper. It doesn't have to be a list of anything in paticular...just to write them down. For me...if I have a lot going on and I cannot sleep, I usually write it down. sometimes it doesn't make sense, but then again I was able to get out what was going on in my head so that I can fall asleep. Or you may want to try yoga before going to bed. Yoga helps me to relax.

Write them down. This way you are storing them else where other than in your head.
Perhaps setting time aside each day to worry is a good idea. Then any other time is stictly worry free zone.
This may sound bizzarre but try it.

I'm with you on this one. I have the same problem. I found that reading before bed helps a lot. Find something funny. I like Carl Hiaasen.
