The last time I tried to play an old game on windows xp I installed it, then told it to run with windows 95. This game won't let me install it without windows 95 and I never get the option to try and run it with 95. Anyone know a work around? The game is Magic the Gathering by Microprose. It came out in 97

I have tried the compatability. It worked for the other game. But this game won't let me install it, so I never get the option to try it.

● First of all, try this:

If you get the error "You need Windows 95 to use this program," while installing (as far as I know this is only a problem with the Original Magic game NOT Duels of the Planeswalkers) then all you need to do is run the setup.exe in "compatibility mode." To do this you need to right-click on the setup.exe and choose the Properties option. Then choose the Compatibity tab. Then check "Run this program in compatibity mode for." Windows 95 should be selected by default. !

● If this is not working then:
There is a patch that will allow Mtg to work in XP. Download it from here:

Manalink 1.3.2

[Size: 2527 kb]

● If that does not work then goto to this site for installation instructions:

Find the executable process for the game, you can right click on it, I believe go to properties and among the options in one of the tabs you can find something called compatability mode, properly check the box and select Windows 95 from the drop down menu in order to run it in compatability mode for Windows 95, that should work.
