I heard that since the purpose of Daylight Savings has pretty much passed, there is talk of eliminating it altogether. However, I'm not sure when this may occur, and which of the turning the clocks (in fall or spring) would be the final turn. Any insight would be most appreciated.

No even though farmers are not a big factor any more. The improvement in outdoor recreation time during the summer is still worth the inconvenience of changing the clocks.

I remember hearing that the clocks will go up in spring of 2007, and that they won't go back in the fall.
