You are in the wrong place, but that's okay. To answer your question, sometimes it is just chance to get a best answer. You are not always going to know what the asker is really thinking. A good way to try to get a best answer, if the asker lets the people vote for a best answer, is to vote for your own answer. It may sound unethical, but Yahoo! Answers lets you do that. Another way is to go to categories you know about. Keep practicing on giving answers and read what others have done. In no time, you will start to give good answers and get picked best answers. I am sorry to say, I got a best answer right off the bat. I knew something about the category of movies, so it was easy for me to get a best answer. Keep trying and good luck.

Find a category where you can give helpful answers is the first step. Go back and vote for yourself every week. At least half the people who post Q. don't bother to pick a best answer.
Genealogy is easy, since people here ask the same two questions over and over again.

You have only given one answer according to your profile... You need to answer more than one question. Also, keep in mind that not every answer you are going to give is going to be a best answer. Good, well thought out answers usually earn the "best answer" recognition.

Find a category that you know a lot about, then answer questions there. That's what I do :) and I have over 70 best answers.
