Banned by who?
The US government doesn't ban any web sites. Some schools and libraries do, to protect children, but that's not a government function -- it's a function of the individual organizations.
You're free to visit any web site you want to. You do need to know, though, that visiting certain ones (run by terrorists, certain countries, nutcase fanatical groups, etc.) will attract the attention of the federal government (yes, they do keep track of who visits those pages) and could get you under surveillance or have the FBI question you -- but you can go there if you want to.

No websites are banned directly. Certain types of content is illegal to possess or view, primarily child pornography.

I disagree. If you say anything government doesn't like they'll shut you up .. and YOU are censored. There are ways of censoring web sites so that if you don't already know about a topic, you won't find out it exists. So, if TV, newspapers, magazines, and/or radio doesn't tell you about government corruption and destruction, and the sickening of the US population by industries as an unintended side effect of greater profits.. then you just die... actually thinking it was your own fault... cause that's what you're told... and we're so stupid we think it's normal for more than 50 % of the population to have at least one chronic disease.. and normal that we and our children look like fattened cattle. (I'm one of the few that escaped ) What an embarrassing end for WE THE PEOPLE. And now we're in for more industrial deregulations by the science illiterate money hogs in government.. Oh yes, and more tax breaks for them as well. Everybody knows having a job and money trumps having your health and your freedom and your life.
