My partner will be on an A-1 visa and will be in the US for 4 years. Will I need my own H1B visa to work?

About 10 years ago, a friend of ours accompanied her husband to American when he was there working on a visa for two years.

She didn't work whilst she was over there. She would have had to apply for her own separate VISA to do so. She was a lawyer by profession but as American law is so different to British law she didn't even contemplate working in that field and so didn't want to go through the hassle of getting a VISA. She was a a housewife and also a teaching assistant a local school - voluntary work.

But then her husband was earning a fortune so they could afford for her to do that.

Unless your married, I don't believe you would be allowed to come. If you are then you need to apply for your own work visa.

In the USA the various states have conflicting laws. Better
consult the embassy or a consulate.
