$ It would be wise to be checked for an ulser or some other closely related problem. The teeth will cause bad breath just 35% of the time.

Bad breath can be reduced or prevented if you:
Practice good oral hygiene. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. Brush your teeth after you eat (keep a toothbrush at work or school to brush after lunch). Don't forget to brush your tongue, too. Replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months. Use floss or an interdental cleaner to remove food particles and plaque between your teeth once a day. Dentures should be removed at night and cleaned thoroughly before being placed in your mouth the next morning.
See your dentist regularly – at least twice a year. He or she will conduct an oral examination and professional teeth cleaning and will be able detect and treat periodontal disease, dry mouth, or other problems that may be the cause of bad mouth odor.
Stop smoking/chewing tobacco-based products. Ask your dentist for tips on kicking the habit.
Drink lots of water. This will keep your mouth moist. Chewing gum (preferably sugarless) or sucking on candy (preferably sugarless) also stimulates the production of saliva, which helps wash away food particles and bacteria.
Keep a log of the foods you eat. If you think the foods that you eat may be causing your bad breath, record what you eat so that you can determine which foods may be contributing to the problem. Bring the log to your dentist to review. Similarly, make a list of the medications you take. Some medications may play a role in creating mouth odors.

If it is just cleaning then you could try listerine after brushing. The original flavour, not one of the sweet ones because I think the sugar actually brings back bacteria quicker.
It probably isn't about brushing though. It is probably that you have some cavities or bad teeth that need attention. However much you hate going to the dentist I hate it more but sometimes there is just no choice.

Brush your teeth at least 10 minutes three times a day.
Also swish Listerine for 30 seconds in your mouth 3x a day. (this is hard to do but gets rid of those nasty germs).
Bad breath comes from bad oral hygiene, plaque and tartar build up which causes this. If you follow good oral hygeine daily your breath will be much better.
Also floss at least once a day, or after each meal to get rid of plaque and tartar and all that nasty stuff stuck in your mouth
Good luck

try this: drink 100 ounces of water a day; take 500 mg vitamin c twice a day (for your gums); change your toothbrush to a soft brush and brush 2-3 times a day including your tongue and inside your cheeks. Eat a bland/plain diet - NO SPICEY FOOD - do this for 1-2 weeks and you should notice some positive changes.

All these answers and nobody has told you to scrape your tongue. They have tongue scrapers at your local drugstore and this should help immensely. If you still have problems, you may check to see if you have food stuck in pockets (especially if your wisdom teeth were removed).
The foods you eat and periodontal disease might also be culprits. See a dentist if tongue scraping doesn't work.

Halitosis is usuallly caused by bacteria on the tongue and hard-to reach places. Try using hydrogen peroxide (3%) mixed with salty water to mouthwash and gargle, and use toothpaste with baking soda (yes, you can use baking soda as a tooth paste - it's not wierd).
If you have tried all that, have you tried going vegetarian for a week? Cut out all mean and dairy products for one week and see if that has any effect.

Have you gotten your wisdom teeth out? They could be infected/rotten/food stuck under them and that may be causing the problem. You should really see the dentist, and they can help you come up with a solution.

Because the smell comes from your stomach or nasal cavity not your mouth. See a dentist for help for your chronic bad breath.

You might have gum disease (gingivitis). You need to see a dentist who can do a proper cleaning. The tartar buildup can not be cleaned by regular brushing.
