I have a 2 bedroom apt, and someone was telling me that a great dane makes a great apartment dog. I was wondering if it is true. Obviously I would take it for a nice walk everyday, Just wondering, I am in love with big dogs.

Oh my,

Get a bigger place if you are in love with big dogs. We to have big dogs, my other half loves them. I could not imagine having these dogs in a apartment!! We have a mastiff, and a saint Bernard (plus a normal sized cow dog, not big though).

Walks are good but what about when you are at work? I am talking mass destruction when puppies! When they go to bathroom I am talking they go!! Floors ruined, carpet destroyed, furniture moved out of house! A couch does not hold up to a big puppy left alone! Big dogs use such things as chew toys....

It is up to you to have a big dog in a apartment, but having big dogs we have been through puppy stage and WOW (and I am now staying home now so a puppy now would not be such a big deal). Talk to your landlord, unless of course you life in your own townhouse or condo.

When the puppy grows up and is trained this is not bad, but remember this is a good year if not longer (big dogs tend to calm down faster then smaller dogs, do not live as long though).

Good luck on your decision!

My Great Dane was the friendliest, kindest dog. He was so friendly that he wagged his tail ALL the time. When he was indoors, that meant not only sweeping everything within reach, but the tail would whip the walls so hard it would bleed.
I'd consider a short-tailed dog for an apartment, if you want a large breed.

The Great Dane will do okay in an apartment if it is sufficiently exercised. It is relatively inactive indoors and does best with at least a large yard.
look at this site it has great information

Great danes are a good dog, but depends on how big your apartment is , and how much there is to knock over. great danes have been known to be clumsy, so it might be wise to make sure there isn't nothing he could easily break or knock over. becasue they are such a big dog, wouldn't take much to break something.

any dog can live in an apartment as long as it gets enough exercise ... so that would be up to you and your partner, how much you want to exercise a dog ... low exercise would be a pug in a small sized dog ... high exercise would be a jack russell terrier in a small size dog ... i work from home in a small apartment with a jack russell terrier and it works out just fine ... living in an apartment forces dog owners to walk their dogs because there is no backyard to stick them in which is why virtually any dog can live in an apartment ...

Yes I heard this as well on a TV program.
Apparently do to there size and hips they require Little exercises and they are quite happy lounging around an apartment instead of running around like other dog breads.

Puppies will be puppies in all breeds. They are really active. Adult Danes only wish a couch and their human. They don't need a large home.
