It seems that almost overnight, my daughters diet has almost cut in half, she isnt as interested in food as she was for the last 3 months or so. Is this likely to be because she had been going through a growth sput, and required more calories at that time? Could her body just need less now? Thanks

Sorry, my daughter will be 15 months on October 20. Shes walking, running, playing, talking, approx. 26 lbs, and I dont know how tall she is but when we went to the doc at 12 months she was at the top of her percentile in height.

My daughter has went through the same thing and is still going through it and she is almost 20 months. At first I was worried, because is is in the 25th percentile for her weight, but the 75th percentile for her height. At her last check-up I asked her pediatrician about it (since I am a new mom) and he said she was fine and it was normal. That during this time sometimes food takes a back seat to other more interesting things like, walking, running, climbing, talking, dancing, exploring and learning new things..etc...as well as throughout this time she has been cutting new teeth, which reduces her appetite. Keeping her well hydrated is important and he recommended that on the days she does not seem to want to eat, give her more milk than she normally gets, that way she is still getting the calroies she needs.

it really depends on the age of your daughter. my own son was a monster at meal times, and could not get enough. now there are days that i call his 'hunger strike' days, when i am lucky to tempt him into eating something as small as a slice of apple or a cracker. do not worry, this is normal for the 2-3 year old range. they are so busy exploring the world that they literally don't have time in their schedules to eat. too busy! but the next day... bring out the shovel.

as long as she is healthy, does not show signs of sudden weight dropping and is a happy cheerful baby, you should be fine. just get her to eat her vitamin (i like flintsones cause he likes the flavor) and make sure she is well hydrated. lots of milk and juice. avoid sodas, the bubbles fill their tummy, and if they were hungry before, they can't tell with a tummy full of bubbles.

My daughter is 16 months and we're having the same problem. We discovered that our little girl will only eat soft foods and apparently had molars coming in. She still does and we're still fighting to figure out what she'll eat. If shes teething there's a good chance she's just in pain. Hope this helps. : )

Depending on the child's age she probably doesn't need the extra calories as her growth slowed don't.

And remember no toddler has ever diet from self-starvation, unless they have seen you sufferring from an eating disorder. Your child will eat when he or she is hungry.

,Oh God the food thing was a nightmare with my only child and I. It scared me to death, I thought my child has got to be starving, I took him to doctors I cried, you name it I did it. I have learned however that that's children for you. My son is now 7 and he still has strange eating habits. One week he's eating me out of house and home and the next week he barely eats anything.

However from birth he has been quite healthy, weight height and all proportionate.

Don't worry it's okay trust me.

My son does that all the time. He's 2..sometimes he eats like he's starving, and then sometimes he eats like he's full. Just make usre that on teh days that she won't eat that you give her extra fluids.

That's probably the exact reason she's not eating as much. It could also mean that she's getting sick. Just monitor how much and when she's eating.

It's probably just a phase. She'll eat when she's hungry.

You didn't indicate the age of your child but it seems that you are pretty right about what you stated
