I never lost a molar, and my oldest has not, but little brother-six years old-lost a molar today in school. Should I be concerned? His teeth are not rotten or anything-they are taken care of very well. We are not due for dentist appts. for three more months...

Ok first....to other people who have responded...Permanant molars don't arrive until age six....so most likely it is a baby tooth molar which normally come out between 10-12. To answer your question though...No it is not normal. I would see the dentist. They need to take a radiograph and see what's going on. If I had to guess and if decay or infection is not present, then most likely those permanant molars (which by the way do not have baby teeth above them and come in at age 6) are erupting at an angle which has seered off the roots of the baby molar in front of it. This would cause the baby tooth to loosen and possibly exfoliate (fall out).

Yes it is absolutely normal for a child to lose a molar tooth.

6 is a little young for it, tho. It usually happens between the ages of 10 & 12.

I suggest you make a quick phone call to your dentist's office, to ease your mind.

Normally a person looses all of their baby teeth by the age of 15. If he lost a molar, one should be pushing its way in to replace it soon.

You did lose your molars. You lose ALL your baby teeth. They have to come out to make room for the permanent teeth. You just don't remember. They are usually the last of the baby teeth to go. The first are the front teeth.

He shouldn't be losing molars at that young of an age. You do lose molars but not until around the age of ten or so. Six is awfully young to lose them.
