If I were you I would get with your local city council and propose a city wide fund raiser. I would also get with local churches and ask them to help raise the money. You would be surprised how much money Christians will give to help someone. Our church just raised money to help someone in a similar situation and we didn't even know the person or anyone in their family. Just make sure when you go to speak with people that you have proof of the situation so they don't think you are trying to scam people out of money.

I think the idea of calling a local TV station would be your best bet. That'll get you the most coverage with probably no cost. And with the holidays coming up, people are gonna tend to be a tad more giving. Good luck!

Do what our town does.. We've had kids that lost a loved one, that didn't have the $ to burry them, so they'd do car washes, and you wouldn't believe the results!! Then, once, my sister who worked in Laughlin, at the Laughlin High school, had the kids, all raise money for their "Graduation" field trip, by doing car washes, and not only did they do it for a few weekends, but they raised enough money, for their trip, there, gas $, the motel for all the students, and their meals, plus x-tra, money, to go around!! Okay, here's several suggestions, make flyers, first, with a photo of her, healthy, or in her condition she's in now, ask her which.. Explain on the flyer, just what you told us.. And take these multiple copies, to church's businesses, and ask if its okay to put a plastic container, on there counter, of all your local stores, with her picture on it, and a small explanation, on a old large, peanut butter jar, ask all your friends to save theirs to contribute, to all the businesses counters... Thats one idea, another, is do car washes, limit of $3.00 per car, or however much you want to charge.. With a big sign some of the local kids can make, for you, saying its for a life saving procedure, with her photo on it, you can tape her picture on a cardboard box to make the sign with !! Make several of them, and go to one of your slowest businesses in town and ask them if you can use their parking lot for these weekends for car washes, have all the kids from her school, or your neighborhood, help.. Or see, if they'd be willing to do an "Honorable-Good-Deed" and explain to those who dont know, whats going on and what its for.. You'd be "Surprised !" How willing kids are to help, when they know its something very crusial, to help someone!! And have the kids stand on corners with arrows on them, and a large photo of your girl on it, curiosity, will get people to pull over, and have all the kids say, the car wash is x-amount of dollars, or on a donation basis, too!! Have them get out all of their old big plastic containers, rags, anything for washing cars.. Old towels, and so on.. Then you could have an "Auction" pass out flyers, to neighbors who want to place their things for sale, at the Auction.. If whatever they make, if they could make a donation, for this girl...Put an add in your local penny saver, about her, w/ her photo, and an explantation, w/ a phone number for anyone who wants to help donate, for her procedure.. these adds are usually free!! You could have the local kids, from her school,or from your neighborhood, bake fudge, and place them in silver foil, with seasonal ribbon on it, and sell them for $1.00 a square, door-to-door, and with the flyer, with them to hand the people, first, then they can say, $1.00, or any donation amount, if their feeling like helping!! You would be amazed at how people will spread the word, and get businesses to make very "Generous-Offerings" to you.. As well as, all your local churches, are really good about helping with this sort of thing..... I'll say a prayer, for you, and I'm so sorry our Government let you & her down!! I am not surprised, at all ! Our Government seems to be letting us all down these days, with a lot of things!!! God Bless you , both..
