First off, stop letting the dog run like a maniac until it's perfectly fine. You are allowing more and more damage to occur while trying to heal. If the antibiotics were helping, try using them on and off for a few prescriptions worth. Your dog may have a slight infection in it's blood, tendons or muscles that isn't being detected through normal tests. Also, try letting him swim for his exercise, since that will burn up a lot of energy with literally no damage to himself. Have you tried an anti-inflammatory drug? I know Vet's say do not give the dog any OTC meds for humans but I had a lasso-mix and she got an advil a day in her food for about 8 or 9 years to ease sore joints...she lived to be 19! Each is so different so who really knows? I like to make sure my dog's get a great variety of nutrients, minerals and vitamins so they get a varied diet thru-out the day. Much of the veggies need to be cooked for him to eat but I include the juices from cooking too. He likes it so hopefully it's helping him too. Try to give your dog foods that don't include too much wheat or flour or corn content...more protein than anything too.

Veterinarians are invaluable by keeping our pets healthy. But I also believe that your vet has given up on your dog's condition. The dog could have something inflamed going on??? Xray and blood work won't always show this.
Take your boy to another one. I'm not telling you to dump your vet, just take your dog's medical history information and test results to someone else. (You may have to do this from your vet statements. ) This way the second vet will know what you have already have had done on the dog.
"There is only so much your vet can do"
Well sometimes it takes a second opinion to figure out the problem. Go to another vet (outside of your vet's practice). Maybe you may just have to keep your dog's activities restricted until a soar joint heals??? Let another vet tell you what he may think.
Good luck with your dog.

Oh dear! You've got a very sick dog!

He may have some form of leukemia. Or some other degenerative disease. You may want to find a specialist in this sort of thing- though I can't hold forth much hope for your dog. Since you say the antibiotics seemed to help for a while, I'm guessing- and keep in mind I'm no vet- that his condition is probably related to his immune system in general.

Good luck.

I would be surprised if he already had serious problems with arthritis at 2 years old. What your describing sounds more like a neurological problem. You said the vet has x-rays, I'm assuming of the bones. Has he done a CT scan? This sounds like something going on in the brain. Please ask your vet, or take him for another vet's opinion. It's me again. I keep thinking about your Lab. You know I do want you to ask about a possible neurological problem, but this could also be something as simple as an inner ear problem. His main problem seems to be with balance, it could also be why he has problems with stairs and jumping up. Kind of like vertigo, he doesn't trust himself enough because he "feels" off balance. Maybe this is why the antibiotic worked temporarily. Some inner ear problems can be chronic. It's worth investigating.

I'd say you have gone to some crappy Vets and need to look further. Look for a crusty old Vet(Lots of experience) or a Specialty Group, where there are experts. Most Vets are like general practitioners and not expert in any particular area. If you fail to resolve this issue ,don't expect your dog to lead a long healthy life.

Have they ever diagnosed him with arthritis? It is very common in this breed. You might want to take him to the vet and suggest they prescribe him with medicine to help with his joints (then you can see for yourself if there are any changes in him physically).

Better late than never, Hope all works out for the best.

Sounds like he's got some nervous systems probably -- I would take him to another vet for a second opinion personally.
