I am terrified! I really don't want to have this surgery. I was told I didn't have gallstones but that my gallbladder was functioning only at 10% of what it should be. I'm able to eat pretty much what I want although I do avoid fatty foods. I've never been able to pinpoint my attacks to eating any particular food. After doing a lot of reading on the subject and finding all kinds of things from flushes and supplements that supposedly eliminate the need for surgery to the problems people have after having the surgery and I'm just wondering, what would happend if I just chose not to have it out? I only get the attacks about once every 4 or 5 months and and they only last 30 min. at the most and I have an occasional twinge in between. Is there some kind of risk I'm taking by not having it out? I've already put the surgery off for a year.

I'm not worried about the surgery at all. I'm more concerned about the reprocussions afterward...diarrea, special diets, etc. I'm already very concientious about what I eat and exercise 5 X week. I don't want to have to alter my life if there are ways to avoid the surgery.

The surgery is nothing. Laproscopically done and leaves only a small scar. My daughters is at 30% but she is in so much pain that they are taking it out. If you don't have stones and you aren't in pain all the time there should be no rush to remove it. However my mother waited and waited and her gall bladder had gangrene in it not to healthy. Talk with your doctor if you are willing to put up with the discomfort every four or five months they probably will delay it till you are ready.

I had the tiny three hole surgery about 4 years ago. I was in and out of the hospital from one day to the next. Did i feel better after? Ummm! I had rocks so this was the reason for the pain.

My wife has been having problems recently with hers as well. I have taken her to emergency several times from the pain. Each time I mention that if it is not necessary they say ok just watch your diet more closely.

Drink Chinese green tea. This helps a lot! Watch your diet. Lose those unsightly pounds. Stop eating greasy food. Stop eating so much. Stay away from fast food. Get exercise. Stay in good shape. There! If you do all these things you will not meed surgery of any kind. Watch out for those doctors!

They make money by doing surgery!! That is why they became a doctor!!! Like an earlier post always get more than one opinion and do not ever get a 2nd opinion from that doctors freind. They are in it together?!!! To make $$$$$$!!!!

You need to have it removed. It's not just that it's only functioning at 10%, it will just keep getting worse and worse. Gallbladder surgery is no big deal. They can do it laparoscopic. They make 3 tiny holes in your abdomen and suck it out. Seriously. Then you will feel so much better.

If you don't trust your doctor, get a new doctor. If you trust your doctor , have the surgery.
