According to mapquest.com and yahoo.com, there is no town in NY called "Seldon". There is a Sheldon, NY and a Selden, NY.
Selden is located on Long Island in Suffolk county. There are many newspapers serving Suffolk county. Check out the list and call the obituary desks of some of the papers to see if you can find a copy of the obituary.
Sheldon is tiny place located in Wyoming county. The Wyoming county Chamber of Commerce lists three newspapers.
Also, the Social Security Death Index may provide some information on the actual date and place of death.
