I have treated her twice and low and behold she still has them! They are little rice looking worms and I really dont have the finances to take her to a vet right now so I need to treat her myself! IS it tape worms maybe I am not treating her right? I have a child and another adult cat in the house I don't want anyone to get infected. This cat came from an abusive home with lots of fleas I have treated her for the fleas but I need advice on the worms!?! ANYONE!?! HELP!?!?

Its a shame, but most vets wont give you any meds for her/him without seeing the cat first, and chargingmyou a fee. Harts, and other pet supply companys do make very good worm meds. The trick is to administer the dewormer, and wait a week or what the box instructions say and give it a secound dose. There are always eggs left the first time that will hatch. I've even done it the third time after waiting the recomended time, though I dont recomend it. I would like to thank you for saving an abused kitty. It seems she/he has found a good home. Theres a website for help if you cannot afford it but I cannot remember it. Try looking up www.catfancy.com and see if you can get any info there. That is a magazine for cay lovers. Good luck.

Yes - fleas and tapeworm go together.

A few months ago, my cats had tapeworm and fleas. I first treated them for the fleas with topical Advantage (within 11 hours all fleas on them were dead!). Then I waited 3 days and gave them tapeworm tablets that I bought from PetSmart for about $25.00 (1 bottle has 3 tablets). These tabs are just as good as what the vet would give you becuase they contain Praziquantel - the same med that the vet gives to cats and dogs with tapeworm.
My Vet actually TOLD me that these tabs from the petshop will work just fine. And they did.

The 3 tablets in the bottle will probably be enough to treat BOTH your cats (read the label instructions carefully). I only had to buy one bottle to treat 4 cats (1 adult, 2 "teeny-boppers" and 1 kitten).

Hope this helps you :)

It is a shame that you can't just call a vet and get a simple medication for tape worms and you must understand that that is THE LAW - vets are not allowed to precribe or give out medication (except maybe for flea treatments like Advantage or Frontline).

Over the counter products which you can obtain are ones that vets have found ineffective (as you have learned in your case), too harsh or dangerous to use on animals without consultation.
Remember that all these medications are POISONS and you do not want to subject your cat to that repeatedly and not rid her of the parasites.
