Train for what????

I'm dead serious.

I wouldn't ask a Husky to do 3rd level AKC competion.

I wouldn't choose a toy breed as a candidate for tracking.

I wouldn't pick a collie to do field trial work and retrieve things from a lake.

I wouldn't select a Golden as a herding dog.

Now any - and I mean ANY - dog can learn heel, sit, down, stay, stan and come.

The ease of training depends as much on the owner's personality as the dogs. Some can't handle the breeds that are clever, independent and assertive (and, yes some bloodlines of Goldens fall in that group) because they aren't strongwilled or persistent enough. Some can''t handle the high energy, highly teachable dogs because they are too lazy to keep the dog worked. Anyone who goes around moaning "why won't my dog listen? I LOVE him" couldn't train the top candidate for an OTCH (AKC Obedience Trial Champion.)

I've put the top AKC obedience degree on dogs of breeds that the consensus opinion (at the time) was "that breed doesn't train well for that." I've trained dogs as Service Dogs in breeds that made even AKC show judges gasp "Oh migod, thats a - - - - - - working as a Service dog!"

That question would be best answered by researching breeds of dogs that you are interested in, and what you mean by "trainable".
Do you mean basic obedience or teaching tricks, etc? Are you considering purebreds or mixed breeds? Each breed has it's own temperament, but each dog is also an individual.

The easiest and smartest dog I ever had was a black lab mix.

The most trainable dog breeds are the ones that you are willing to spend the time with. All dogs regardless of breed or age need structure, consistency, and most importantly, L O V E. Local animal shelters are full of dogs (young AND old alike) who yearn to love and be loved. Good luck!

A dog is what it's owner makes it.

I've seen some of the most unruley Chihuahua's and some awesome Pit Bull's.

EVERY dog is trainable. How well depends on the owner and how much time he or she puts into the dog and his/her training.

I never would have believed it to be true, but now that I have 2 of them I would have to say pit bulls. They are amazingly smart animals. Also Jack Russell's, depends on what you mean by "train" though as some others have said.
I have had labs, sheppard (also very good dogs) St. Bernards, mutts etc. but my male pit is the BOMB a real "people pleaser" he has about a dozen tricks down pat by HAND COMMANDS!!!

I am a dog trainer, I would say a designer dog, (mutt)
But if you want a breed, a German Shepperd or a caviler king Charles spaniel
