You have to understand what Prilosec is. It blocks the gastric juices from entering the stomach. Try an anti acid such as Tums.
Have you checked out what is causing the heart burn? Have you eliminated the causes? etc. as coffee, fats, spices, sugar, soda or a medication. It could be an allergy, or it could be nervous tension.
When taking the Prilosec your system becomes accustom to a lower acid content in the stomach. This is why the direction is ONLY 14 days.
If after you try the elimination diet, if this doesn't help ,see your doctor, it could be something more serious

If you don't see a doctor and have your symptoms checked you can get worse. I have one of the "worsening symptoms" - I never knew heart burn could do this. I have a disease called "Barrett's Syndrome" and I never even knew I had heart burn. I went for a normal colonoscopy and they insisted on doing a scope thru my mouth, too. I kept saying I didn't need that but they kept insisting it would be good to make sure. So next thing I know the doctor is very concerned. I have cells in my esophogus that are pre-cancerous - they are mutated cells that became that way because the digestive acids burned it continually for years. I am higher risk for esophageal cancer now. I have to take medication twice a day for the rest of my life. I have to have scopes every year.
And I never even thought about heart burn or GERD or anything like that. I wasn't in pain or had any symptoms that I know of.
So if you are having pain - well, I would get it checked out to be on the safe side. The medication I take is a stronger acid blocker and it's a prescription.
I never knew all this could happen to someone who had no symptoms.

That warning is there because if your heartburn is that persistent you most likely have Gerd....and the FDA wants you to see a doctor so they can observe you for worsening symptoms.

they probably want you to be evaluated by a physician if symptoms are persisting after 2 weeks, otherwise it can be taken indefinitely as long as your doctor agrees, good luck
