Here is the Soft scrub... here is a sponge... scrub till clean. (smile) Ill come back in a few minutes and see how you are doing.... if done say GOOD its clean... if not done say OH MY it isnt done keep cleaning
You could help him or her and do it together. I have two kids and I dont make them do that. How are his or her grades? Do you let them know grades and being socially appropriate at school are his only MUST DO tasks now? School is the way to succeed, you dont want them scrubbing tubs for a living do you?
I would only make mine scrub a tub if they had a smart mouth.
i would say HEY people with smart mouths are the kind that talk back to teachers and cops... folks who talk back to cops go to jail... folks in jail scrub tubs and toilets... Mine never have smart mouths. They learned how to succeed at this game many many years ago.

Threaten his life.. Just kidding..
First show him how to do it. Then let him do it once in your pressence. Then put up a shcedule of when it needs to be done and let him know it's now his job. Remind him at each interval that it's time to do his job. Remember, he is only 10 and it won't be perfect. That's ok, he'll get better. Thank him for doing such a good job.
OOOOHHH.. I thought you said scrub the tub.. my bad..
Good luck girl.. I have the same problem.. They take showers that last a micro-second and he smells just as bad as when he went in.. I usually threaten to come in there and scrub for him.. He knows that i'll scrub extra hard on purpose. Seeing as he is not a baby anymore and shoudl be doing it himself. He doesn't like that and usually shapes up. I have also been known to send his nasty behind back in the shower up to 4 times in order to get it done right. He usually get upset that he's missing his TV shows. Then I remind him that if he had done it properly the first time he'd be sitting in front of the boob tube already.

You are not alone. My son is 10 and hates water. I have to beg him to get in the tub ans wash (showers are out of the question he has a fear of water and his face) When he was younger (under6) I would have to put on shorts and get in the water up to my knees and help him. I let him do most of it on his own now since he is older, but after he gets out and covers with a towel I have to wash his hair, he won't. I washed him up until age 8. I just tell him now if he doesn't clean well enough I'll have to come in and clean him. Sometimes (after he is out of the tub) I'll wash behind his ears and neck area for him

Well sounds like you let your child do whatever they wanted to while they were growing up. I guess the next statement you going to say is that you let him bathe theirself while they were smaller. I have a 4yr old and he loves to bathe. He started out bathing himself at 1. Every since then he has groown to like bathing by himself. Maybe thats where you messed up at. If thats not the case then priviledges should be taken and you might need to bathe that child yourself. Some parents don't believed in spanking so i won't suggest that but take things away from him that they love so much and give certain days from them until they start following your orders.

You didn't say if you had a girl or boy. I have daughter, so if you do also, I would suggest taking her to Bath & Body or even Target and let her pick out an assortment of body washes and/or bubble bath and lotions. American Girl makes a great line of body products aimed to the tweens, and they are affordable also.

Introduce him to the shower. Make a big deal out of the fact that that's the way 'grown-ups' take a bath. Then get him a cool body sponge and body wash.

Isn't funny-they all seem to get a little gross at that age!!! I started putting mine in the shower and he feels more grown-up. all I had to do was go over it with him once, and sniff his hair when he gets out!!!! If I start to think he is slacking, I tell him I will come in and do it for him!!! He would be mortified if I saw his itty-bitty little man!!! They seem to get private and more modest at this time-so for him anything that will allow him to stay independent helps.

At 10 they understand clean and dirt. Let them do the best they can and they will get better as their friends make fun of them for being dirty.
