Just taxed my car. How come it was only £50 for 12 months. Last year it was £90. Do you think they made a mistake?

It's due to the new immissions banding. Your car must have v low emissions.
Here's a website with all the prices on. http://direct.gov.uk/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicleArticles/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=10012524&chk=X2gG9G

To encourage people to cuy less-polluting cars, the Government introduced two new lower emission bands for car tax at the last Budget.
Previously all cars with less than 150 g/km of CO2 were taxed the same. Now cars that emit 120g/km or less are taxed lower. Your car's CO2 emissions are 120g/km, which puts it in the new Band B.

The new car taxation scheme is proportional to the size engine you have in your car. There is a range of engine sizes for each tax bracket. The smaller the engine size, the less tax you pay. I think it starts at 850cc to about 1100cc for the cheapest tax bracket. That is why your tax is cheaper now than before.

As a uk-registered automobile is in simple terms legal for use in different ecu international places (e.g. Republic of eire) whether it quite is legal for use the the united kingdom, you may no longer legally force your uk-registered automobile interior the Republic of eire in the journey that your uk street tax has expired. Your coverage is in all probability invalidated additionally. while you're basically temporarily interior the ROI, you need to have the automobile registered to a uk handle someplace. Your answer is to get the automobile taxed, and the tax sent to that handle, then forwarded to you. because of fact the tax would not expire interior the midst of the month, this hasn't in simple terms occurred to you this week. you need to have appeared after this all out till now the tax expired, and till now you bought your self into this restoration. additionally, as your automobile has now been untaxed, there is in all probability a quite good waiting for you for no longer renewing it on time or affirming SORN.

Hi groid (sounds like a SF mutant) RFL, road fund licence, is now determined by engine size and levels of pollution ( exhaust emissions ) so small car and low emissions = lower RFL, be happy !!
