It really depends on the species. There are hundreds of species of duck, but you can really divide them into three groups when it comes to eating. The dabblers, the divers and the grazers. The dabblers, like mallards and sprig, would prefer to eat insects and nymphs like you would find in a pond but will eat vegetation such as grain if they can find it. Divers like to dive and grab vegetation such as tender water plant shoots, algae and moss.Grazers like to eat grass and grains from dry land.

If they are being raised in a domestic setting they are eating grain & bugs.
In the wild they eat small fish, water plants, grasses and bugs.

Water plants, vegetation, worms and various insects. They seem to have an affinity for beef jerky as well, thank God that they are unaware of what it truly is! Peace

well the ones I feed are usually eating a whole grain bread with ritz crackers, and on special occasion, they get popcorn.
